This project is funded in large part by a generous ‘Creating Humanities Communities’ matching grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).

Through this grant, NEH will match dollar for dollar each gift up to $150,000 until the Project’s final culminating exhibit and celebration at the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center during the October 2020 Brattleboro Literary Festival

Partnering Institutes

This large-scale effort is led by five principle partnering institutions:

Marlboro College, the Brattleboro Literary Festival, the Brattleboro Historical Society, Brooks Memorial Library and Write Action.

There are many other organizations and individuals involved and supporting the project. Read more about our Leadership Team.

National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)

Recognizing the Project’s potent potential to amplify and enrich the work of each partnering organization for the benefit of the community at large, the National Endowment for the Humanities chose this Project for a rare ‘Creating Humanities Communities’ grant which will match dollar for dollar each gift up to $150,000 until the Project’s final culminating exhibit and celebration at the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center during the October 2020 Brattleboro Literary Festival.

National Main Street Center/Edward Jones

The Downtown Brattleboro Alliance received a matching grant for $2500 from the “Placemaking on Main” initiative, a collaborative effort between National Main Street Center and the national Edward Jones.

Funding was used to launch MILES and the first exhibit “Lucy Speaks”.

Generous local support came from the Brattleboro Rotary Clubs, local Edward Jones offices, and numerous individuals, to reach the maximum match.

Every Dollar Counts. We Need You!

Maximizing our unique access to the full funding requires us to match the NEH funds dollar for dollar. If we do this, our community will benefit with $300,000 towards creating a humanities community!

To help us reach this goal, and provide as many of our planned projects as possible, please make a tax-deductible donation today.
