John Rice Hooper was born with printers ink in his veins. Son of John S. and Marion Rice Hooper (Stephen Daye Press and the Reformer) and grandson of Howard C. Rice, (founder of the Reformer in 1913) he, too entered the printing and publishing business. His newspaper career spanned 35 years, and he retired in 1992 as Sr. Vice President of Guy Gannett Publishing Co. headquartered in Portland, Maine. In that capacity, he had operating responsibility for daily and weekly newspapers, and commercial printing plants employing 2000 people with sales of $150,000,000. He resides in Rangeley, Maine but maintains a love for his hometown of Brattleboro.
